## Can the visit happen online?

Telehealth is care at a distance: through video, phone or an exchange online instead of meeting in the same room.

As of September 28, 2026, North Carolina's Medical Board says your first doctor visit can happen online. The doctor still needs enough information to work out your health problem and plan your care.

The visit can use live video, or photos and health records that the doctor reviews later.

The board says a fixed list of questions on a form cannot be the sole basis for treatment. Whoever treats you must be able to ask further questions about your health.

Ask what health records or photos are needed. Be ready to describe what you want help with and list your medicines.

Ask how an exam or test will be arranged if the online visit cannot answer the medical question.

## Does my location matter?

Yes. As of September 28, 2026, the person treating you online generally needs a North Carolina licence if you are in North Carolina. There are a few narrow exceptions.

Tell the service your planned location for the visit. Ask if the person assessing you holds a licence to treat you in that place.

Request a price quote naming the precise product. Self-pay means paying without asking insurance to cover the charge.

The medicine semaglutide (Wegovy) is used to help people lose weight. As of September 26, 2026, the government cash-price site listed its tablets starting at $149 per month.

That offer was for tablets with the least medicine in each tablet. It was not the price for every Wegovy tablet or injection. Get a price for the particular product your doctor names.

Ask the Charlotte clinic or online service to add its visit fees to any medicine price.

In a small national sample, online weight-care services advertised monthly memberships on September 26, 2026. The medicine cost extra.

Membership means a fee paid each month to use the service. Ask which visits or other help the fee covers. This national sample does not set prices for Charlotte clinics.

## Will insurance pay?

Ask the insurer whether your plan covers the named medicine for the reason it was prescribed.

As of September 26, 2026, Medicare's medicine benefit could cover weight-loss medicines prescribed for other approved uses. Examples include type 2 diabetes, or lowering heart risks in people with heart disease and excess weight. Your plan still has to agree to cover the exact medicine.

Prior authorization means the plan has to agree to pay in advance.

Ask whether that step is needed and what you would owe if the plan declines.
